Life On The Bubble

Last year was too great. Winning the Big East, being ranked in the top 10 all year, and eventually getting a #1 seed in the tournament. Albeit it was a tad disappointing to watch them lose in the round of 8 for the second straight year to the eventual champion, it was a fun year to be a fan. The reality is Randy Foye and Kyle Lowery are gone, and this year's version is no where close to what it was last year. But at 19-9, and their RPI sitting at 21, with some key wins over Notre Dame, Texas, Georgetown, and Louisville they have a shot at making the dance. They play Uconn tonight, and Syracuse Saturday to close out their schedule. Assuming they split these games and finish at 20-10, is this enough to make it in? You would think yes, but they sit currently in 9th place in the conference, this could be tough. It may take a strong showing in New York to insure they do in fact get into the field of 65.

By the looks of it, the conference has 5 definite teams making it, with Syracuse pretty much locked in now with their recent win over the Hoyas. That means that if West Virginia, who is currently 7th makes it in, they would have to send 7 teams from the conference. That seems like a high number even from a power conference. If a team like Syracuse last year wins the Big East Tourney, then that creates even more trouble for the Wildcats. Bottom Line? I think they need at least 22 wins to get in the Dance. >21 and I think they are NIT bound, regardless of their RPI.

Don't forget about Allen Ray, now!

Yeah Allen Ray was alright. I guess his performance in the tournament being so poor (of course he had that horrible thing with the eye happen against Pitt in the BET)that he becomes an afterthought. Foye and Lowery were the heart and soul of that team, and while it was nice to see Ray get some run for the Celts this year, I am surprised he was able to make it to the NBA. But you're right, I shouldn't have discounted Allen.

Nice win by the 'Cats tonight. That Scottie Reynolds is a player.

Lunardi and some other ESPN talking heads seem to think 'Nova is a tourney lock. I certainly think they deserve a bid. 7-9 seed?

Yes, Reynolds is a player. Hopefully he sticks around for 4 years, but if he keeps dropping 40 like that he will surely leave early.

That win last night probably gets them in with a few wins in the Big East Tourney now. Depending on how they finish out I could even see them getting a 6 seed.

What's your opinion of Mike Nardi?

I think that guy generally is a tool. His court demeanor is like he thinks he's the BMOC, but in reality he's clearly not on the same level - not even close - as Foye, Ray, Lowery and Scottie Reynolds.

I'm not a fan.

I agree. Not a huge Nardi fan at all. Where was this guy last year in the tourney? He has been playing half decent this year, but I will be ready for him to move on. I think he went down hill after he got that "Nardi" tatoo with the basketball on his arm.
